An everyday trip to a convenience store turned extraordinary for a Toledo man after a lucky scratch-off ticket won him a life-changing jackpot-then a second ticket sealed the deal with another big prize.
The Ohio Lottery reports that the local resident purchased a $50 Millionaire Blowout scratch-off and hit the game’s top prize: $40,000 a year for 25 years, totaling $1 million. Opting for the lump-sum payout instead of annual payments, he received $500,000 before taxes. After a 26.75% tax withholding, his take-home amount was $366,250.
But the story doesn’t end there. Feeling fortunate, he bought a second ticket from the same store-Mike’s Corner Store on Key Street in Toledo-and won again, bringing his total winnings to over $1 million before taxes.
Store employees expressed excitement over the remarkable back-to-back wins. Stephanie Krampton, one of the staff members, shared her enthusiasm with local media, remarking on the rarity of such consecutive wins and expressing hope that the lucky winner is a regular customer.
The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, plans to use the windfall to extend an upcoming vacation, purchase a new vehicle, support his children, and save the remainder.
The Millionaire Blowout scratch-off game offers prizes from $75 up to $1 million, with overall odds of winning set at approximately 1 in 2.73. As of late July, the Ohio Lottery still had several top prizes available, giving hopeful players more chances to strike it rich.
