(KRON) — Undercover police officers investigating suspected drug dealers at Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale discovered a methamphetamine “treasure hunt” that was used to complete sales, authorities said Wednesday.
The investigation was carried out over the past two weeks in a collaboration between the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Community Crimes Unit and the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team. Undercover officers planted throughout the park were able to identify two drug dealing suspects and the methods they used to deal narcotics, according to Sunnyvale DPS.
“Investigators learned that the suspects often lightly buried narcotics beneath tanbark, in shrubbery, or under stationary objects throughout the park,” police wrote. “After receiving payment, the suspects would quickly leave the park and direct customers to the hidden location of the narcotics, effectively creating a ‘treasure hunt’ to complete the transaction.”
The suspects also allegedly sold drugs inside a parked vehicle so that the transactions could not be observed by law enforcement.
