AI helps reunite blind senior dog with Bay Area owner

(KRON) — A 16-year-old blind and hard-of-hearing dog was reunited with her owner less than 24 hours after going missing in Fremont thanks to an AI photo-matching tool.

“Izzy” slipped away from her home on a recent Sunday evening and wandered near a freeway on-ramp. Some Good Samaritans spotted her and took her home for the night.

The couple then uploaded a photo of Izzy to the Petco Love Lost database. At the same time, her owner, Diane, filed a missing pet report after discovering the service through the Tri-City Animal Shelter website.

Using AI-powered photo matching, the database connected the two reports, allowing Diane and the couple to get in touch and reunite with Izzy the following day…
