CONWAY, S.C. — The Horry County Museum hosted “The History of the South Carolina State Flag” on Saturday, July 25, a lecture exploring the origins of the state’s flag while separating historical fact from the long-standing myths surrounding its iconic symbols.
The museum, which preserves and interprets the history, prehistory and natural history of the region through exhibits, educational programs and special events, welcomed attendees to learn how the flag evolved over time and why many of its commonly repeated origin stories are historically inaccurate.
