NEW YORK, NY — Two men were killed and three other people were badly hurt after a crash in upper Manhattan that police say involved a suspected drunk driver, according to reports. The wreck happened Friday evening near West 109th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.
Investigators said the driver hit several parked cars, jumped the curb and struck people who were sitting outside a barbershop. Police later took the driver into custody and brought him to a hospital for blood testing.
What police say happened
The New York Police Department said it was investigating a collision in the area and urged drivers to stay clear of the block. The report identified the driver as 61-year-old Elvin Suarez of Morningside Heights.
According to the reports, the two men who died were 35 and 46. Three others, ages 36, 44 and 51, were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition.
