After several residents complained about getting parking tickets in the midst of a long power outage that cost them hundreds of dollars in lost groceries and other hardships, the City of Evanston voided all tickets that were issued Tuesday.
Storms on Monday left Evanston with downed trees and several thousand residents without power. Kevin Donofrio, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Chicago, said wind speeds were between 60 and 70 miles per hour during the storm.
In a statement issued Wednesday, city spokesperson Jessica Mayo said, “Street cleaning operations were suspended Monday when the storm hit. Enforcement resumed Tuesday because pausing it longer would have prevented streets from being cleared of debris; cars need to move for crews to do that work. That said, given the severity of the storm, all tickets issued Tuesday, July 28 have been voided as a one-time accommodation.”…
