LUBBOCK, Texas — After multiple media outlets requested the contract behind Texas Tech’s Galaxy Stadium naming-rights deal, the university system asked Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to decide if parts of the agreement can be kept from the public.
After Texas Tech revealed the Jones AT&T Stadium was renamed to Galaxy Stadium on July 17, EverythingLubbock.com, the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and the Daily Toreador submitted record requests for the naming-rights agreement between Texas Tech and Galaxy.

Rather than immediately releasing the contract, Texas Tech told the AG’s office the documents may contain proprietary information belonging to Galaxy. Because of that, the university is asking the AG to determine whether some or all of the contract could be withheld from the public. Texas Tech said it has notified Galaxy of the requests and is giving the company the chance to explain why some parts of the agreement should remain private. Texas Tech said it has not taken any position about the third-party claims and will rely on Galaxy to make its case to the AG.
