Along the west I-65 service road, just before Moffett Road, stands the first billboard ever put up for Avera, who disappeared from Searcy Hospital in Mount Vernon in 1982.
“After 44 years, we’ve just finally been able to make contact with [the] Alabama Cold Case Advocacy,” said Becky Hoover, Avera’s sister.
“I’m not going to let it fade. I will never stop looking for our sister. She’s out there somewhere.” Hoover continued.
