Western Springs Man Loses $35,000 To A Jury Duty Phone Scam

We’ve talked about phone scams on the air many times over the years, but this latest one out of suburban Chicago is a reminder that even smart, cautious people can become victims.

According to Patch.com, a Western Springs man was recently conned out of $35,000 in an elaborate jury duty scam after receiving a call from someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer.

The caller allegedly convinced the victim that he had missed jury duty and faced immediate arrest unless he paid a hefty fine. Believing the threat was real, the man followed the scammer’s instructions and lost $35,000 before realizing he’d been duped…
