DENVER (KDVR) — New information has been released concerning the circumstances that led to multiple firefighter deaths during a response to the Gore and Knowles Fires that eventually combined to form the Snyder Fire in Utah and Colorado.

According to an update from the United States Wildland Fire Service and United States Forest Service, preliminary investigation indicates that the deaths stem from a burn-over incident on June 27 around 3:19 p.m. that caused an entrapment.
Members of the Rifle Interagency Helitack Crew, made up of USWFS and USFS staff, were involved in the initial response on the Gore and Knowles Fires.
