Just months after the MTA’s most recent fare hike took effect, the agency is already laying the groundwork for another increase beginning in 2027.
In its new preliminary financial plan, the MTA is calling for a 4% bump to New York City subway and bus fares, along with bridge and tunnel tolls, starting in March 2027.
If the proposal is approved, it would raise the current $3 base subway fare by 4%, though the MTA has not announced a final new price. A straight 4% increase would put the fare at about $3.12, but historically, the agency rounds fares to the nearest nickel — meaning riders could end up paying somewhere between $3.10 and $3.15…
