Federal safety officials have announced a recall of approximately 178,000 OCTROT-brand heated blankets and throws due to fire and electrical shock hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that the product’s electrical cord can detach and ignite, creating a serious risk of fire, burns, and electric shocks.
According to the CPSC, the manufacturer has received 555 reports from customers describing incidents of melting, sparking, and smoke. These issues have led to 27 fires and 15 injuries involving burns or electrical shocks.
The affected blankets and throws, produced in China, were sold on Amazon.com between August 2021 and December 2025, with prices ranging from $40 to $60. Consumers should look for the brand name OCTROT and model numbers OCT-5060, OCT-5062, OCT-6248, OCT-7284, or OCT-8490 on the packaging.
The CPSC advises consumers to stop using the products immediately and contact OCTROT to request a full refund. To properly disable the product, owners should unplug the cord, cut it in half, and send a photo of the disabled blanket or throw to [email protected].
