HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Horry County woman is speaking out against the county’s beaver bounty program, calling the practice inhumane and saying better solutions exist.
Kristi Hinton said she has left voicemails with the Horry County Stormwater Department regarding her concerns but has not heard back.
“One of the big concerns we have is that these are native creatures, and we’re all concerned about loss of habitats, and these things need to be considered when we’re coming up with policies,” Hinton said. “And so, if there are things that people can do to discourage beavers from being on their property, then more humane methods need to be come up with. Not asking that beavers be killed and their paws hacked off.”…
