Man charged in June shooting near Lincoln Park nightlife corridor

A man has been charged with shooting a woman near a popular Lincoln Park bar strip on June 7, an incident that rattled neighbors even before a second, unrelated shooting just yards away turned fatal in July.

Chicago police said Thursday night that Jaylin Jones, 23, faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery by discharging a firearm in connection with the shooting of a 39-year-old woman in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue. Police have not detailed what led them to Jones, and more information about the allegations against him is expected to come out during his detention hearing on Friday afternoon.

In June, CPD said officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the area just before 3 a.m., with callers reporting people running from the scene. Officers searched the neighborhood but did not immediately find a victim. About 45 minutes later, the woman arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to her chest and thigh and was rushed into surgery…
