The North Face has closed its last store in Berkeley, ending the outdoor company’s retail presence in the California city where it was once headquartered and where it manufactured gear for decades.
The outlet at 1238 Fifth St. closed July 12 after 51 years. Its covered logo, black-painted doors and otherwise quiet departure marked the end of a local connection that began when the North Face was still a small mountaineering business.
