UnityPoint Des Moines nurses earn enough votes to unionize, Teamsters claim

DES MOINES, Iowa — After eight months of waiting, Teamsters Local 90 announced that nurses at UnityPoint Des Moines received enough votes to unionize and that the majority of UnityPoint’s objections were overruled.

In December, over 800 nurses at Iowa Methodist, Blank Children’s, Methodist West, and Iowa Lutheran hospitals voted to join Teamsters Local 90. Over 600 nurses voted no. The results, however, weren’t immediately confirmed, as the Teamsters union challenged 251 ballots…
