LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Langston family has witnessed hundreds of car crashes this year throughout Nevada, Utah, and Idaho—but it’s all part of the job.
In January, CollisionCam, a Utah-based organization, announced the installation of around 70 traffic cameras around the Las Vegas Valley, reaching a total of 100 monitored cameras throughout the country. The organization charges insurance companies and attorneys for the footage, but gives it away for free to victims as a public service.
Tate Langston, founder of CollisionCam, said the idea for the organization came after he was involved in a car crash in 2023, hoping someone caught the incident on camera but to no avail.
“The city didn’t have cameras, and the [Utah] Department of Transportation had cameras, but they didn’t have any playback,” he said. “I remember just wishing there was a way we could get footage to see what happened, which is kind of where the idea stemmed.”…
