Chicago – A 53-year-old man with nine prior burglary convictions now faces fresh charges after allegedly entering two more garages, one of them only three days after a judge released him on electronic monitoring rather than keeping him in custody. The case has drawn attention to the balance judges must strike between pretrial detention and community safety when defendants have extensive criminal records.

Timeline of the Alleged Offenses

Prosecutors outlined a sequence of events that began in early June. On June 2, Ronald Moore is accused of jumping a fence in the 1100 block of West Chestnut Street, entering a garage through a side door, and taking a lacrosse bag along with a motorized drill. Ring camera footage reportedly captured the theft.

Two days later, on June 4, surveillance video allegedly showed Moore entering another garage in the 1000 block of South Oakley Boulevard and stealing a bicycle valued at roughly $500. Investigators later connected both incidents to him…
