Ozarks experiencing near record cold to start August

August 1 and jacket weather don’t normally go hand in hand, but that’s exactly what we experienced today.

Today’s high temperature actually occurred at midnight at 72°. And temperatures never warmed from there. All in all, today will go down as the second-coldest start to August ever recorded. By the afternoon, temperatures were stuck in the mid-60s, while mist and a brisk north breeze made it feel even cooler outside.

As nice as this break from the summer heat has been, it won’t last long.

Clouds will quickly clear on Sunday as temperatures begin to rebound. Highs are expected to climb into the middle 80s, which is still a few degrees below average but noticeably warmer than what we experienced today.

The warming trend will continue into the workweek. High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will push close to the 90-degree mark before even hotter air arrives during the second half of the week…
