Unlike 2024 and 2025 when we had a combined total of 11 homes destroyed by lightning we have had none through July 31st. The number of days with lightning to date is 37 compared to our 10-year average of 66 so that has worked in our favor.
However, we have been fortunate as homeowners in DeLuna, Newell, and Shady Creek have experienced direct lightning strikes piercing the roof but no fire. In another case the exterior cable box was hit by lightning causing a fire that was extinguished by the homeowner before it could spread into the home. None of these homes nor the aforementioned 2024 and 2025 homes destroyed had a lightning protection system (rods).
