IMPD arrests suspect in man’s 2025 fatal overdose

INDIANAPOLIS — Police arrested a suspect more than a year after a man died from a drug overdose, using phone records, location tracking and witnesses to make their case.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) apprehended 34-year-old Aaron Woodburn on July 30, 2026, with help from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Nearly a year earlier, on July 28, 2025, 68-year-old Daniel Patterson was found dead inside a pickup truck at a storage facility in the 7000 block of Company Drive. Officers were dispatched to the location for a welfare check on Patterson, who was unresponsive in the driver’s seat.

Autopsy and toxicology results later confirmed his death was caused by an overdose. The ODTF then investigated the case and identified Woodburn as the person investigators believe supplied the drugs that led to Patterson’s death…
