Richmond utility billing update: Bills, new account numbers, and more staff coming

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – The City of Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities said it is still working to verify accounts for customers who have not yet received a bill and to process payments.

DPU said customers who have been waiting on bills should expect them to arrive during their normal billing cycle soon.

What customers need to do

Customers who pay through their bank’s online bill pay system are required to update their account number to the new 10-digit version. Customers who use the city’s MyHQ portal do not need to take any action.

Staffing and wait times

The city said 15 new customer service representatives have already been hired to assist with starting, stopping, and transferring service. An additional 17 representatives are set to begin this month. The city said wait times are down and more billing improvements are expected in the coming weeks.
