Line dancing at Joyland offers exercise, community in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Line dancing at Joyland-The Country Junction offers residents a way to stay active, sharpen memory and build social connections, according to line dance instructors Rose Prim and Jeff French.

The venue, located at 8333 North Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota, hosts line dance lessons three nights a week. All classes run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and are open to all ages.

Class schedule

Wednesday classes are designed for ultra beginners — those who have never line danced before, prefer a slower pace or want to polish their skills. Thursday and Saturday classes are open to beginners through intermediate dancers. Saturday classes feature all country songs.

About the venue

Joyland-The Country Junction spans 18,000 square feet and includes a 3,000-square-foot dance floor, a 16-by-24-foot video wall, nine 85-inch screen TVs, a 100-foot bar and a 1,500-square-foot outdoor patio.

Scott Serbin purchased Joyland in 2018. The venue relocated to its current address in 2020 and expanded at the end of 2025, doubling its space in the same plaza. Joyland reopened at 8333 North Lockwood Ridge Road in February 2026.

Social connections

Prim and French said line dancing’s benefits extend beyond physical fitness. Seven couples have met and become engaged at Joyland over the past five years, and the venue has been the starting point for friendships described as lasting a lifetime…
