Despite recent heavy rainfall, officials say Durham will not lift its stage 2 water restrictions any time soon.
“Currently, we have not hit the trigger to leave stage 2,” said James Lim, the water efficiency and conservation program manager for the city of Durham. “The trigger is basically that our lakes are pretty close to full. We have to have a 95% chance of being at 95% full.”
The water supply total is at about 52% due to the rain from the weekend before last. Lake Michie is about 8 feet below full and Little River is 12 feet below full. Lim said Durham would need to see a significant amount of rain in order to lift its water restrictions…
