GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man will serve years in prison after pleading to a slew of charges stemming from a 2024 shooting in Kalamazoo that injured four people.
Dominique Motton was sentenced Monday to between 16 and 40 years for three counts of assault with intent to commit murder, five to 15 years for assault less than murder, five to 15 years for tampering with evidence, two to seven years for being in possession of a firearm as a prohibited person and two years for felony firearm, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

The shooting happened Dec. 3, 2024, outside the Little Caesars on West Main Street near Northampton Road. Two people sitting in a parked car began shooting at people in other cars, police said at the time. Three people suffered gunshot wounds and a fourth was injured by shrapnel.
Court documents show investigators identified the suspects as Motton and co-defendant Javion Jackson because license plate readers caught Motton’s then-girlfriend’s car near the scene. The car’s owner told investigators that Motton and Jackson had it the night of the shooting. Police also say ballistics matched Jackson’s gun to the one used in the shooting and they found ammunition in Motton’s apartment that matched the ammunition found at the shooting scene.
