This shark lives in both Mobile Bay and the Gulf, but beachgoers don’t need to fear

Most people don’t know it, but if you’ve swum in the Gulf of Mexico, there’s a good chance you’ve been swimming with sharks.

“If you’ve been swimming in the ocean, you’ve probably been swimming with sharks and you just never knew it,” said Marcus Drymon, a professor at Mississippi State University and judge at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo last week. “The shark knew you were there, they definitely knew it, but they’re not interested in interacting with you.”

There are several sharks that swim not only in the Gulf but close to Alabama’s coast. But only one is known to go even further upstream, into rivers and Mobile Bay: the bull shark…
