Portland Public Schools mistakenly shared the personal information of about 3,500 students with a military recruiter, including students whose families had opted out of recruitment communications.
Candice Grose, a Portland Public Schools spokesperson, confirmed Friday that the district became aware on July 7 that a former staff member provided a student data file to a military recruiter without removing students whose families had requested that their information not be shared for military recruiting purposes.
Grose said the district is continuing to verify the number of students whose families had opted out of military recruitment communications who had their data shared. She did not immediately respond to a question asking about the ages of the students whose information was shared…
