Former fugitive receives jail time for illegal firearm possession in Winnebago County

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Jacob Bennett, 30, pleaded guilty following two separate incidents in 2024 and 2026, including fleeing police from a local bar and leaving a Rockford hospital with a stolen firearm.

Bennett was a wanted fugitive on February 10, the night he was spotted by police at a Rockford bar. Bennett was wanted for failure to appear in court for a prior arrest for drugs, gun possession, and domestic violence when officers moved in on BJ’s Place, at 2841 11th Street, to take him into custody.

However, Bennett ran and was pursued on foot, tossing a handgun, a switchblade, a Suboxone pill, and over 13 grams of cocaine as he ran, court records show…
