MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Following an overwhelming surge of new dogs taken into the Animal Shelter on Tuesday morning, the City of Mobile Animal Services Department has temporarily paused all non-emergency intakes to allow staff to properly handle the animals in our care.
During this period, any potential intakes will be carefully reviewed by Animal Services supervisors to confirm the situation qualifies as an emergency before an animal is accepted. Normal animal intake could resume as early as 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11.
Earlier today, Animal Services officers conducted a directed patrol in the 900 block of Dawes Road, which led to the intake of 19 loose and roaming dogs from the area. Five additional dogs were also brought directly to the shelter, meaning a total of 24 intakes were processed before 11 a.m. The influx has put a considerable strain on the shelter’s resources and in order to manage those resources effectively and to continue a high standard of care, Animal Services leadership has determined it best to pause most intakes temporarily…
