83-year-old assisted living resident makes unwelcome return to Walmart

An 83-year-old resident of an assisted living facility was arrested after he made an unwelcome return to a Walmart from which he had been previously banned.

Bernard Joseph De Rose, who lives at The Willows in Oxford, was taken into custody Tuesday morning at the Walmart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.

According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the store at about 9:37 a.m. after a worker spotted De Rose on the property. The employee positively identified De Rose and confirmed there was an active trespass warning on file for him in the office.

A deputy located De Rose at the customer service desk inside the building. When questioned, De Rose admitted that he knew he had been trespassed from the store, but told the deputy he thought the order had expired because he believed six months had passed…
