A senior housing community could be coming to Grassfield Road—and the project includes a request to build taller than residential zoning typically permits in that area.
Developers D.W. Land, LLC and Davenport Land II, LLC are asking Chesapeake to rezone roughly 9.6 acres at 2113, 2115, and 2117 Grassfield Road, plus a portion of 860 West Road. According to the Planning Commission’s draft agenda, the Chesapeake Planning Commission will take up both applications at a public hearing on August 12 at 7:00 p.m.
The project, called Dominion West Senior Housing and represented by law firm Williams Mullen, pairs a rezoning request with a conditional use permit seeking permission to build up to 55 feet tall.
What the rezoning would change
Right now the land is split across R-15s (single-family), R-TH-1 (townhouse), and R-MF-1 (multifamily) zoning districts. The proposal would convert nearly all of it—9.56 of the 9.6 acres—into R-MF-1, with just 0.04 acres remaining as R-TH-1…
