ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — The developer of the Google Data Center located in southeast Allen County has applied to fill and construct upon just over two acres of protected wetlands.
In a public hearing notice released on Tuesday, it was announced that the developer of the Google Data Center, Hatchworks LLC, has applied to fill an additional 2.13 acres of forested, Class II isolated wetlands with “clean earthen fill.” The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) also requires applicants to purchase mitigation credit if a project impacts a protected wetland. In this case, Hatchworks LLC would have to purchase 4.26 acres of forested wetlands from Openings Mitigation Bank in Fort Wayne.
This follows Hatchworks’ December 2024 application to do the same with surrounding federally owned waters in Indiana, which was approved on July 17 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The area listed in the application included a 0.78-acre portion of Adam’s Ditch and the installation of a sewer line into a tributary of Doctor’s Ditch.
