Orange County adds school crossing upgrades before classes resume

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County students returning to school may see new pedestrian and traffic safety changes near several campuses, including a relocated crosswalk and a new pedestrian island on Lake Underhill Road near Waterford Elementary and Discovery Middle schools.

The Lake Underhill Road project, at Spring Island Way in the Waterford Lakes area, was completed over the summer. Orange County also recently completed traffic improvements near Bay Lake Elementary, Horizon West Middle, Panther Lake Elementary and Horizon High schools.

Carol Barrett said she regularly walks in her Waterford Lakes neighborhood with her dog, Miss Margaret, and helps students cross Lake Underhill Road. She said she once had to pull a child back while helping him cross the street…
