Therapy K9 for Wisconsin school unexpectedly passes away

GREENFIELD, Wis. (WFRV) – A therapy dog who served as a cheery companion for students at a Wisconsin school has unexpectedly passed away after a six-year career.

According to a social media post, Greenfield Police confirmed on Wednesday that Gizmo, a therapy dog for the Whitnall School District, died suddenly.

Gizmo’s service reigned from 2020 to 2026, faithfully accompanying Officer Aasterud. It was said he brought comfort, compassion, and countless smiles to everyone he met, touching many lives throughout the district and the city as a whole.

Greenfield Police say whether he was comforting a student, brightening someone’s day, or simply wagging a supportive tail to a person in a difficult moment, Gizmo had an instinctual gift for making people feel safe, seen, and loved.

“His paw prints will forever remain on the hearts of those who had the privilege of meeting him,” the department said. “He was more than a Therapy K9—he was a friend, a partner, and a cherished member of our community.”…
