Portland Deputies Use Grappler to Stop Reckless Driver After 80 MPH Chase, Mental Health Crisis Suspected

A dangerous pursuit through southwest Washington came to a safe end after deputies used a Grappler device to stop a driver who had been speeding, driving into oncoming traffic, and causing multiple crashes. Authorities say the woman was believed to be experiencing a significant mental health crisis and was taken to a hospital following her arrest.

The incident unfolded around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, when Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver on State Route 503 through Battle Ground. Deputies soon learned the same vehicle had also been linked to multiple hit-and-run crashes in the Portland area.

Taking a look at the official video, Portland Police had previously reported the driver missing and believed she was in the middle of a mental health crisis. Deputies said that information became an important factor as they assessed how to safely resolve the situation…
