(KRON) — Nearly 15 years after brutally stabbing her estranged husband while the couple was going through a bitter divorce, a Los Altos woman was found suitable for parole on Tuesday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Laura Jean Wenke, 65, is serving an 11-year-to-life prison sentence for the 2011 attack. She was convicted on June 3, 2014, of all charges, including premeditated attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The jury also found that Wenke was sane during the crimes despite her not guilty plea by reason of insanity.
Wenke co-owned a construction business in Redwood City with her husband and at the time of the attack had an 8-year-old son together. “They were going through a bitter divorce and (Wenke) was unhappy that victim had a new girlfriend,” the DA’s office wrote.
