Beloved Los Angeles diner’s final weekend after nearly 50 years

Customers have one last weekend to visit a beloved Los Angeles diner before it closes its doors for good after nearly 50 years in business.

Heart’s Coffee Shop in Van Nuys will serve its final meals on Sunday, Aug. 9, marking the end of an era for the family-owned restaurant that has been a neighborhood staple since 1979, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The Wong family announced last month that they had made the “gut-wrenching” decision to close, citing rising food costs, inflation, labor shortages and the increasing cost of doing business.

Yuk and Sue Wong immigrated from China in 1969 with just $100 and spent a decade saving enough money to purchase the restaurant. Their American dream became a reality when they bought Heart’s Coffee Shop in 1979…
