ORLANDO, FL — Friday is featuring another round of PM storms and downpours, moving due west across central Florida throughout the afternoon. While not quite as extreme or widespread as Thursday’s activity, coverage remains only slightly less intense, still running above average for a typical summer day across the region.
Storms Track Westward Through the Afternoon
Radar imagery from 2:30 p.m. Friday shows numerous storm cells tracking across central Florida, with activity moving generally westward from the Daytona Beach and Palm Coast area toward Gainesville and Ocala, and separately from Orlando and Kissimmee toward Spring Hill and Zephyrhills.
The heaviest rain totals and storm coverage are expected across inland areas, including Orlando, Kissimmee, Lakeland, and Bartow, where intense radar returns indicate the potential for locally heavy downpours throughout the afternoon and evening.
Tropical Wave Adds Fuel for Multiple Storm Rounds
A tropical wave moving across the area from the Bahamas is helping fuel multiple rounds of torrential downpours and storms across central Florida. Satellite imagery shows the tropical moisture and associated storm activity tracking westward toward the Florida peninsula, contributing to the active pattern.
Vivid lightning and heavy rain are identified as the biggest threats associated with today’s storms, though the overall severe weather risk remains fairly low and is not considered a significant concern by forecasters.
