Jail finalizes new family notification policy

After years of discussion, Allegheny County Jail administrators next week will implement a new family notification policy for incarcerated people who experience a medical emergency.

The new policy, distributed to Jail Oversight Board members on Wednesday, requires the jail’s onsite medical provider to follow a chain of command that allows a notification to be made to the person’s emergency contact.
