WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Voters in the District will decide the fate of foie gras, a food item made for the practice of force-feeding ducks.
“Foie Gras is a delicacy that’s made out of the livers of force-fed ducks,” said DC Shadow Representative and democratic nominee for At-Large Councilmember Oye Owolewa. “They’re force-fed with metal tubing, and oftentimes they’re fed to the point they can’t even walk anymore. All to the point to fatten their liver.”
Owolewa has worked alongside animal advocacy group Pro-Animal DC to gather signatures for Initiative 86, or the Prohibiting the Force-Feeding of Birds Act.
