Columbus-founded Dueling Axes closes all of its locations, including three in central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An axe-throwing chain that originated in Columbus has closed all of its locations, including three in central Ohio.

Dueling Axes, founded by Jess Hellmich and Paul Sherry, was an axe-throwing venue and sports bar. The concept first launched Downtown in 2018. It later expanded to northeast Columbus near New Albany and to Las Vegas in December 2020, followed by Grove City in July 2025 and Cincinnati in August 2025.

The company recently shuttered all of five of its locations, with the final closures taking place July 31.

“The closures resulted from circumstances outside our control and we are deeply saddened that our eight-year journey has ended this way,” the business said in a statement. “For now, founders Paul and Jess are focused on responsibly wrapping up the company’s operations and moving forward into their next chapter.”…
