Same Corner, Third Time in Months
This is not the first time this exact intersection has turned deadly this year. Just five weeks earlier, on July 3, a shooting at the same corner of 59th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard left two men dead and a third wounded, according to Hoodline’s earlier coverage of that incident, in which officers found a 49-year-old man dead in the street while a 60-year-old man died later at a hospital. Weeks after that, on July 24, LAPD officers took a suspect into custody near Crenshaw Boulevard and Hyde Park Boulevard following a separate shooting in the neighborhood, with officers forming a skirmish line during that response.
The corridor has also seen other recent violent-death investigations nearby, including a case involving twin toddlers found dead on South Victoria Avenue in mid-July and a fatal shooting reported in the area in March.
