A rinse and repeat forecast is expected for Friday with monsoon storms and near record heat. Unlike yesterday, dry conditions were depicted on radar late this morning with temperatures reaching the 80s and 90s across the state. By the late afternoon and early evening near record is expected in a few locations. Farmington, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Durango are some of the locations that could see record heat. Albuquerque’s last high temperature was set in 1994 at 100 degrees. Also, today’s forecast will feature showers and storms that will develop in the afternoon and evening. Locally heavy rainfall is possible around the state with potentially stronger thunderstorms in northeast New Mexico once again.
Meanwhile Farmington is expected to see its longest streak of 100-degree heat continue through Sunday. The city had its fifth day in a row of triple digit high temperatures on Thursday after reaching 101 degrees. Today’s forecasted high temperature is also 101 degrees and for the heat the NWS will issue more Heat Advisories. These advisories will be in place from 12-8 pm for temperatures that will reach the upper 90s and lower 100s.
