SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The very first former Albuquerque Police officer to face sentencing next month in the DWI corruption scheme is asking for more time. Former APD Lieutenant Justin Hunt is scheduled for sentencing on September 15 in Santa Fe.
In a motion filed Thursday, Hunt’s attorney said they need more time to go through more “approximately 500 gigabytes of discovery to date, which contains approximately 1,016,359 pages of discovery.” The evidence is part of a massive data dump recently handed over to defendants by prosecutors.

Hunt was the tenth officer to plead guilty for his role in the bribery scheme, admitting to targeting drunk drivers and conspiring with former defense attorney Thomas Clear III and his paralegal Ricardo ‘Rick’ Mendez. Hunt admits he received gifts, such as free wheels, tires and a lift kit for his Jeep, in exchange for failing to appear at required court hearings for Clear’s client.
