LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) – Next week, the Lenexa City Council will hear a proposal on where it could expand its trail system. It comes after the city commissioned a study, called the Trail Alignment Study, last summer.
The purpose of the commissioned study was to create a plan on where to make connections through the city, close gaps in the sidewalk and trail system, and prioritize trail investments that align with the city’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan and Vision 2040. Currently, Lenexa maintains more than 45 miles of trails. This proposal would add nearly 6 miles through 4 trail connections in the city.
The first recommendation is called the Clear Creek Connection, which would be located west of Clare Rd, inside the Timbers at Cleark Creek neighborhood. The connections would run north and south connecting to 91st St and 83rd St.
The second, Canyon Creek Connection, would be west of Canyon Creek Blvd within the streamway with connections north to 91st St. The expansion would also create opportunities for future connections further north to create a larger loop, according to the study.
The third, called the Powerline Connection, would create connections eat and west of Mize Rd, bisecting fields, and would connect up to the future 83rd St expansion and into the Clear Creek Trail System.
The fourth and final proposed connection trail is called the Black Hoof Connection. It would connect Buffalo Meadows Park and Black Hoof Park by running between Monticello Rd and Lone Elm Rd. It would also provide additional routing opportunities between Monticello and Lone Elm Rd for neighborhood expansion.
