Houston ISD and the Houston Police Department will increase patrols around campuses to start the school year Aug. 10.
As more than 160,000 HISD students head to the first day of school, the district and community organizations will launch Project Safe Start, which increases security along student routes to HISD campuses. The initiative has added more police and volunteers around district campuses for more than 25 years.
