Today, storm coverage will be at its lowest point, with just a few storms in Maryland and Northern Virginia. Any storms that do develop are forecast to be short-lived; however, with gusty winds, plenty of lightning and locally heavy rain. As far as temperatures go, they once again will be in the 90s, with a continuation of high humidity.
Tomorrow, the chances for thunderstorms have increased given another disturbance moving through the region. The latest forecast suggest that scattered to numerous thunderstorms will once again be seen across the region, mainly east of the Alleghenies Monday afternoon and evening. SPC currently has most of the region in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe weather with a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) grazing northwest Garrett Co. MD.
The opportunity for more storms to be in the forecast continues on Tuesday and each passing afternoon thereafter through the end of the week. When it comes to weekly temperatures, it appears that the hottest days will be Monday and Tuesday as the thermometer pushes into the mid-90s with heat indices closer to 105 degrees east of the Blue Ridge.
By Friday the forecast is for a strong front to get closer to the DMV, bringing more severe weather to the region, but also the hope of clearing the area of some of the humidity and lowering the thermometer back down in the mid and upper 80s, which is closer to normal.
