Ten years ago this week, rain fell across south Louisiana for four days, with some areas receiving as much as 28 inches. Rivers and drainage systems were overwhelmed, sending floodwater into nearly 2,000 homes in Lafayette Parish.
The Vermilion River at Surrey Street crested at 17.62 feet on Aug. 15, well above its 10-foot minor flood stage.
