Severe thunderstorm warning issued for several counties in Charlotte area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Sunday for several counties in the Charlotte region.

On Sunday, Aug. 9, the National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the following counties:

  • Avery County – until 9 p.m. Sunday
  • Burke County – until 9 p.m. Sunday
  • Cabarrus County – until 9:15 p.m. Sunday
  • Caldwell County – until 9 p.m. Sunday
  • Rowan County – until 9:15 p.m. Sunday

Severe thunderstorms were moving across the area Sunday evening, and could bring strong winds and small hail.

Wind gusts could reach about 60 mph, and could cause damage to trees and power lines.
