When it comes to Florida’s hip hop scene, it’s difficult not to conclude that Miami is the true capital. Having produced the likes of Rick Ross, Trick Daddy, Vanilla Ice and Denzel Curry, it has a rich tradition of birthing talented rappers.
But up north, on the polar opposite end of the ‘Sunshine State’, there sits another rap hub entirely. Jacksonville, despite not boasting rappers as well-known as Rozay or Vanilla Ice, has nonetheless seen plenty of MCs emerge from its streets and clubs to leave their mark on the national and occasionally international hip hop consciousness.
Jacksonville has the biggest population in Florida, not to mention one of the biggest populations in the US as a whole. It stands to reason, then, that lots of rappers have emerged from there, particularly in light of its broader musical history.
